British School Muscat (BSM) is a non-profit, co-educational, British international day school in Muscat, Oman, that provides a comprehensive education to English-speaking expatriate pupils aged 3–18. The school follows an enhanced version of the English National Curriculum.
BSM placed three orders with Ecotile; one for 547.5m2 of Ecotile for classrooms in April 2017, 116m2 of Lifestyle tiles for around the swimming pool in July 2017 and then a final order for another 550m2 of Ecotile in August 2017.
The Challenge
1. British School Muscat needed a smart, hardwearing and easy to clean floor covering to replace the existing carpet tiles that had been damaged by a water leak.
2. It was important that the new floor covering offer a good level of sound absorption to maintain an atmosphere conducive to learning whilst being easier to clean and maintain.
3. BSM wanted to carry out the installation themselves so the ease of the Ecotile interlocking tile system met their requirements perfectly.
The Solution
The solid Ecotile interlocking floor tiles are an extremely popular choice in many schools as they can be installed quickly and easily without any specialist skills. BSM followed our advice and took up the carpet tiles first to lay Ecotile on the solid concrete surface underneath. Ecotile is manufactured from PVC so it is extremely durable and easy to clean. If a tile is damaged it can be lifted and replaced in minutes.
The Lifestyle tiles follow the same interlocking principles and so are equally easy to lay but they have drainage holes to prevent surface water collecting and causing a slip hazard. Manufactured from polypropylene they are UV stable and provide a cool surface to walk on around your swimming pool even in the midday sun in Oman!
